OpenIFE for In-Seat systems transforms often highly-constrained seatback IFE devices into flexible platforms, positioning airlines to deliver truly superior passenger experiences—while unlocking the value of IFE assets.
Wireless IFE Systems
CoKinetic’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) product allows airlines to extend the OpenIFE platform and all its benefits and capabilities to passengers’ personal devices via onboard wireless IFE networks.
AirPlay is based on CoKinetic’s patented XML technology. In an entertainment system, AirPlay’s role is similar to that of a web browser on a PC. Just as browsers take HTML from the Internet and render it as screens, AirPlay takes XML from on-board servers to render each part of an interactive. CoKinetic’s many products for IFE are primarily built using XML and AirPlay is the engine that brings those products to life.
AirPlay’s XML approach provides considerable benefits in flexibility that can greatly improve the results of investment in IFE hardware systems. For example, it is not uncommon in the IFE industry for interactive changes to require many months of advanced planning and considerable costs. AirPlay IFE systems avoid this by defining most IFE elements as content, not as code. The upshot is that significant updates to IFE systems can be delivered without any changes to software.
The freedom to make changes without oppressive costs and “change request” processes is critical to innovation, passenger satisfaction and harmonizing IFE with an airline’s broader branding initiatives. AirPlay offers customers this unparalleled flexibility.
AirPlay is compatible with and requires zero changes to the media, ads, maps, fulfillment, payment, certification and review, and other services provided by IFE hardware vendors.
AirPlay is available for most Intel, Motorola and ARM processors so it works on a wide variety of IFE platforms, including Panasonic 3000i, eFX, X2, Eco, X3, Thales i series, and some LiveTV platforms. It also works well on most Linux, Android, IOS, Windows and Mac OS devices.
