AirPlay is based on CoKinetic's mature and widely employed distributed application technology used by companies worldwide. AirPlay integrates the core capabilities of IFE hardware with products and services that airlines can author, commission, or purchase from vendors – and presents all this to passengers in an infinitely customizable GUI.
From a technical standpoint, AirPlay offers many advantages to airlines:
- The software is based on open standards, including XML, HTML and JavaScript
- It is highly reliable and stable in both the Windows and Linux environments
- It works with new and existing IFE hardware
- New applications can be created quickly and easily with a single set of authoring tools; by the airline, by CoKinetic, or by the party of your choice
- Passenger interfaces can be reviewed on the computer desktops where they're created – before they appear on IFE screens
